What is your new job?

The Composite Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for giving guidance to strategic choices on composite processing technologies for Airborne. In this job you are responsible for maintaining and updating this knowledge field. Furthermore you are directing the supporting engineering of mechanical, automation, and lean manufacturing within our development. You have a good overview of what is needed for the project and knows how to get it.

As Composite Manufacturing Engineer you are responsible for the design of the production process, and subsequently for developing and implementing process tests necessary during the whole design and build cycle namely, concept study, prototyping, first build and product/equipment acceptance tests (FAT & SAT). Afterward you are responsible for improvements throughout the design and build cycle, which shall be continuously inventoried and implemented, when and where necessary.

In this role you will take the lead in technical projects, support the Project Manager (or senior management) and be the first line of contact with clients on technical issues.

Knowledge management

Scouting of new technologies that fall in your scope.

Up to date material and processing data base through data collections and technology scouting

Recommendations for future processing development within Airborne

Sharing your knowledge autonomously to his fellow colleagues, peers and senior management. This

includes presenting internally Airborne and at conferences.

Technical supervision/mentoring of his fellow colleagues, in specific process and test engineers

Process design

Process design for automated manufacturing

Prototyping and development of processes

Implementation and testing of (new) processes

Process reports by collecting, analysing and summarising information

Commercial and project work

Contributing to client tenders (schedule, cost and price calculations)

Technical leadership in both commercial and internal projects

Work according to planning – on-time delivery

Reporting Lines and Interactions

In this role you will report to the Team Lead M&P. You will work together with colleagues from the other teams (Software, Mechanical and Automation), project managers and business development.

  • Technical education such as Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, Applied physics

Work experience

  • At least 3-5 years experience within the relevant technology area, preferable within companies.
  • Experience with fibre reinforced polymers (composites) and polymer production processes


  • Broad knowledge of the applicable subject
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)


  • Teamwork - ownership – precision
  • Decision making, initiative, organising, problem analysis.
