What is your new job?

The automation engineer is responsible for the machine control of our automated manufacturing lines, production cells, and equipment. Together with a multidisciplinary team, client requirements are translated into a functional design and technical concept. Subsequently the automation engineer shall design and implement the automation part of the design. This consist of selecting and specifying the appropriate hardware, configuring and programming the system and its components, and perform hands on functional testing. Additionally the automation engineer assures the safety of the system, and keeps the documentation up to date.


What are your responsibilities?

You will be able to perform the following primary tasks:

  • Designing the machine control system according to the requirements
  • Writing (complex) PLC software
  • Programming and running (industrial) robot programs
  • Configuring and/or programming of sensor and actuator components
  • Basic HMI design and implementation
  • Writing (technical) documentation; design reports, test plans, manuals, etc.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems
  • Commissioning and functional testing of hard- and software
  • Perform, contribute to, FATs and SATs

As secondary tasks you will be able to work on:

  • Selecting, or advising in the selection of, electrical components and cabling
  • Selecting, or advising in the selection of, sensors and actuator components
  • Coordination of the installation of hardware
  • Contribute to the definition of FAT and SAT plans, or individual equipment test plans
  • Contributing to client tenders (schedule, cost and price calculations).

You will write and present technical documentation and are capable of supporting project managers or senior and commercial managers by providing good presentable information. You can also give technical substantiations to client in client meetings. As the automation engineer you will write concise equipment manuals and can train (client) personnel to work with the equipment.


Reporting Lines and Interactions

You will report to the Teamlead Automation of ACA. You will work together with your colleagues in the business unit (Project Management, Mechanical, Automation, Process Engineering) and ACA’s partners.


Job requirements

Education                                                                                                                                          

  • Technical education such as Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering or similar.            
Work Experience
  • At least 5 years experience in machine controls design and complex PLC programming. Siemens PLCs preferred.

Technical                                                                                                                                                           

  • Excellent understanding of, and strong interest in PLC programming
  • Affinity with industrial robots

Preferred

Proficient in PLC programming

Knowledge of robot programming.

Knowledge of safety standards.

Proficient in English (written and spoken).
